How it works
Pages are analysed for text and drawing operators. Pages with neither are treated as blank. Higher thresholds also remove pages with very little content.
Automatically detect and remove blank pages from a scanned PDF — save time cleaning up multi-page scans without manual page-by-page review.
Frequently asked questions
- How does Smash detect blank pages?
- It analyses each page's rendered pixel content. Pages with brightness above a configurable threshold are flagged as blank.
- What if a page has a faint watermark or light header?
- Adjust the detection sensitivity slider. A lower threshold reduces false positives on pages with minimal content.
- Can I review which pages will be removed before confirming?
- Yes — a preview shows all flagged pages so you can deselect any that should be kept.
- Does this work on PDFs with coloured backgrounds?
- The detection is optimised for white or near-white backgrounds. Pages with dark or coloured backgrounds may not be detected as blank.
- Can I undo after downloading?
- Not from the downloaded file, but your original PDF is unchanged. Re-run the tool on the original at any time.
