Frequently asked questions
- Can Smash unlock any password-protected PDF?
- Only if you know the password. Smash decrypts the file using your provided password — it cannot crack or guess unknown passwords.
- What's the difference between a user password and an owner password?
- A user (open) password prevents the file from being opened. An owner password restricts editing, printing, and copying. Smash handles both types.
- Is it legal to remove a PDF password?
- Yes, if you own the document or have permission from the owner.
- Does this work on PDFs with restrictions only and no open password?
- Yes — enter the owner password to remove editing and printing restrictions while keeping the file openable.
- Will the unlocked PDF be identical to the original?
- Yes — content, formatting, images, and bookmarks are all preserved.
